The Atlas of Mystara is based on two main types of sources, defined as follows:
- Sources — these are officially published products (books, articles, maps, files, images)
- Secondary Sources — fan-made products (articles, PDFs, maps, files, images, etc.)
Sources include materials published on the web by the setting’s original designers — most notably Bruce Heard’s blog, but also any materials by Bruce or other published Mystara designers. The primary repository for all of this is of course the Vaults of Pandius.
Secondary Sources are used only where official sources are lacking. One of the purposes of the Atlas is to support and enable further fan expansion of Mystara, and this principle informs the use of secondary sources to help detail the terrain where possible; the Atlas endeavours to create as little conflict with existing fan-made maps as is practical — especially where most or all secondary sources agree. Most (though not all) secondary sources are available at the Vaults of Pandius.
The Lists
This bibliography lists all sources used in the creation of the Atlas. Where a replica map exists, its article is linked under the appropriate source, making this a useful alternative way to browse the Atlas — albeit only for replica maps.
The cover of each source links to its PDF version at DriveThruRPG, where available.
Map thumbnails link to the relevant replica map’s article here at the Atlas, if it exists.
Secondary source map thumbnails link to the Vaults of Pandius, or to the map’s download location elsewhere.
Since there are a lot of different sources, they have been divided into sections as follows:
-
Bibliography I: Official Maps
-
Bibliography II: Unofficial Maps
