Mark’s Isle of Dawn Central, 8 miles per hex
This is the second remaining fragment of Mark’s early maps, from the month before he began to post them publicly. The first featured Karameikos, but this one dealt with the Isle of Dawn.
Even at this early stage, with the map clearly still a work in progress, we can already see that Mark had begun to expand outside of officially mapped areas. The eastern section here, showing part of Dunadale, did not appear on TM2 — the only official source for the Isle of Dawn at this scale. In fact, it’s clear that Mark referenced Thibault’s Isle of Dawn map, so he was also already referencing other fan works in his mapping.
Although this was not a finished map, the hallmarks of Mark’s clear and crisp style were already in place: the carefully chosen colours, faithfully redrawn hex art, and high production values without artefacts or graphical errors.
He would return to the Isle of Dawn to complete it in 2006, before revisiting it once again in 2022.
