Mark’s Ochalea, 8 miles per hex
While reworking the Isle of Dawn, Mark completed this map of Ochalea at 8 miles per hex. He noted in the post at his web site that he was shrinking the Isle of Dawn in order to fit it properly in the space defined by the continental and world maps — as I had also suggested in my projects. This fix works well for the Isle of Dawn, although it’s not the only proposed solution. However, it brings up the question of whether to also rescale the surrounding territories, namely Alphatia, the Alatians, the Pearl Islands, and Ochalea.
Mark decided against Ochalea, instead “adjusting the positions of the island groups relative to each other”. This is the resulting map.
He listed his sources, which include almost all previous fan-made maps of Ochalea. The fine detailing of all islands is from Ramelin, while the beautiful sea depths are derived from the work of John Calvin. Other, older maps inform the basic details and terrain of the map.
Although I have logged various versions of this map, they are all largely the same. The main difference is that the first version (May 2021, second below) had curvy trails and shipping lanes, while the latest (January 2022, first below) has angular lines instead — a stylistic issue rather than one of map content.
