Ramelin’s Bellissaria, 8 miles per hex v1
Jose’s first Bellissaria map was Meriander, in late 2015. Just over a year later, he had completed initial work on the entire island continent. He would spend more time developing Bellissaria intermittently in 2017, building up to a finished version in 2018.
As I noted in the article for Meriander, there had not been any 8 mile per hex maps of Bellissaria before Jose’s. That fact had not changed by early 2017, and so this was the community’s first ever view of it at this scale. Thibault’s Bellissaria, 24 miles per hex served as the base, although Jose added much of his own. In fact, the terrain was wonderfully detailed — especially the mountains, to which Jose gave a lot of shape.
Horken and Lagrius both appeared here for the first time in Ramelin Mystara, already fully detailed. The other provinces of Bellissaria were still in various stages of development at this point. Notrion, in particular, looks to be about half finished.
Although at first it looks very similar, in fact Jose completely redrew Meriander for this map; presumably he had not been happy with the proportions of the earlier attempt, although he carried over all of the details into the new, slightly larger peninsula.
The next version of this map would come a couple of months later, followed by more individual province maps mid-year.
