Legend
The map of Mystara in the Rules Cyclopedia shows only the dominant terrain type of very large areas. … Keep in mind that changes from one type of terrain to another are rarely abrupt… each hex represents the dominant terrain in that hex. The larger the scale, the more variations player characters will encounter as they travel through that hex.

The Atlas of Mystara began with the posting of excerpts from its symbol set, back in early 2005. Shortly afterwards I posted a full legend, but it has been rather neglected over the years. This image is an attempt to fix that, providing the Atlas with a proper, nice-looking legend for the first time.
It could still do with some revisions, and there are doubtless symbols that still need to be added. But for now, this is the most comprehensive overland legend the Atlas has ever seen.
Thanks to:
David “Diesel” LaForce, David Sutherland, and all the other artists who worked on Mystara’s hex art over the years.

This is a thing of beauty that I’d love to have a poster of on my wall. When it gets completed of course with the underwater symbols as well.

Thanks! 🙂
For what it’s worth, I’m planning on keeping the underground and underwater legends separate pieces. So this is as far as this one goes at this stage. I think I need to drastically decrease the font size of the note at the bottom, as it’s too big — especially if you print it out.
Can you think of any other changes I should make? For some reason I’ve never been quite happy with my legends, but I find it hard to get inspiration to improve them.

I think its fine the way it is (with the change you want to do with the note at the bottom). Now are you keeping the underground legend separate from the underwater one, or will they be combined?

Sorry, I seem to have neglected to reply to your new comment.
The underground and undersea legends will be separate affairs.
