Karameikos 2E Karameikos, 8 miles per hex
This poster map was one of two included in Karameikos: Kingdom of Adventure — Mystara’s AD&D debut in 1994. The other showed the Known World. Both were hex maps, depicting the world in 1012 AC.
As mentioned in the other map’s post, the change from Mystara’s hex art to Greyhawk’s classic mapping style was quite a shock to existing fans of the Known World.
The content of the map was largely in line with previous maps, and specifically GAZ1’s poster map. It did bring the region up to date with the 1012 AC timeline of the setting, with associated changes. If anything, however, it stuck too close to previous maps, failing to show many of the new developments such as the Estate of Achelos and other Alfheim refugee locations.
Standardised Replica Map (May 2022)
Note: This is a standardised replica, replacing the original hex art and colour palette with the Atlas standards.

Chronological Analysis
This is Map 252. It was published in August 1994. The updated version of this map has not yet been released, although see Karameikos 1011 AC, 8 miles per hex. See also Appendix C for annual chronological snapshots of the area. For the full context of this map in Mystara’s publication history, see Let’s Map Mystara 1994.
The following lists are from the Let’s Map Mystara project. Additions are new features, introduced in this map; Revisions are changes to previously-introduced features; Hex Art & Fonts track design elements; and finally Textual Additions are potential features found in the related text. In most cases, the Atlas adopts these textual additions into updated and chronological maps.
Revisions
- Spellings — A number of labels underwent minor changes from previous versions:
- Safari Island’s Mt. Boahga seems likely to be a misreading of TM1’s Mt. Boanga.
- North Tower goes with TM1’s label rather than GAZ8’s North Keep or Wrath’s Northkeep variant.
- Trader’s Island is a simple variation of GAZ9’s Trader’s Isle. The Atlas consider’s GAZ9’s version to be correct.
