Dragon 177 Robrenn, 8 miles per hex
1992 was a bumper year for Mystara, and it kicked off with this map of Robrenn in Dragon Issue 177.
With the Savage Baronies stretching out into the distance behind the Princess Ark, Bruce Heard embarked on a new course, introducing a new nation of the Savage Coast with each episode. The first of these was the Confederated Kingdom of Robrenn, which was full of Asterix references.
The map itself follows the by now well-established standard of previous maps, complete with clear landmarks allowing it to be joined with Dragon 176’s Savage Baronies map. Perhaps of most interest is the extensive area of non-human cultures, making the clash of nations clearer than ever.
It also marked the debut of a new font, as Korinna replaced Feinen Bold. This continued for the rest of the Princess Ark series, and throughout the following Known World Grimoire, as well as in Champions of Mystara and most of the Poor Wizard’s Almanac poster maps.
