GAZ5 Alfheim Town Area
GAZ5 actually included two ever-so-slightly different versions of this map. While they were functionally the same map, the cropping around the northwestern edge, as well as the positioning of the map title, was just a tiny bit different. In a slight departure from the Atlas’s usual policy, I am treating these as the same map.
This was a peculiar map, as although it was nominally 8 miles per hex, in fact the detail was more in line with a much larger scale such as 1 mile per hex. The 8 mile hexes were printed very large, so that it would be easy to overlay it with a more appropriate scale for the resolution. It also included a close-up that was nominally 1 mile per hex but with the exact same scaling issues as the main map. The close-up would surely be more appropriate as a 1/8 mile per hex map, with a corresponding hex grid.
It’s unfortunate that the area chosen to be depicted was one of Alfheim’s very few deforested areas. A little forest did appear on the edges of the map, but without anything in the way of detailing. It seems like a bit of a missed opportunity to provide a close-up of the Canolbarth Forest together with ideas for DMs to develop it further.
