Håvard’s Sky Realms
This is somewhat of a bookend among Håvard’s maps and diagrams, as it marked the last in a particularly prolific period of his mapmaking. In fact, I haven’t been able to find any that he made after this one — although he has remained as active as ever in the Mystara community.
Håvard first posted about Mystara’s Sky Realms (or Skyrealms) in a thread at The Piazza in 2013. Then he followed up with a map in a new thread in 2018, where he explained his thinking behind the map as follows:
The idea with this map was to expand on the setting presented in PC2 Top Ballista. Not only the city itself, but an entire world above the Known World can be explored. Long expeditions to Alphatia’s Floating Ar or the Ee’ar and Enduk Realms of the Savage Coast is possible, but there are numerous locations much right above the Known World that can be visited for those in posession of a Skyship or a Flying Mount.
Thus, this diagram is meant as a campaign map showing some of the possible locations to be visited in the skies above Mystara. Although it concentrates on the airspace of the Known World, it also includes references to much further afield locations at the edges of the diagram.
And of course, as we have come to expect from all Håvard’s maps, it includes a host of references from across Mystara’s publications.
To sum up, it’s an elegant, clear and concise window into a certain aspect of Mystara — which, really, could describe almost any of Håvard’s maps.
