HWR1 Legend
It had been a few years since GAZ1’s legend thoroughly revised Mystara’s hex art, and in the intervening years quite a few new symbols had been added and adopted as standard. 1991’s HWR1 included a new legend that compiled all of these into a single comprehensive legend. The major additions were Mining (from GAZ13) and Naval Battle (from PC3), but it also included quite a few of the other symbols from PC3’s underwater set. It didn’t change any of the symbols defined in GAZ1, as they had by now stabilised into a fixed set — in stark contrast to Mystara’s pre-Gazetteer years, when the set underwent continuous revision.

Chronological Analysis
This was the legend for Map 177. It was published in August 1991. See also Appendix C for more information on the hex art in circulation at that time. For the full context of this legend in Mystara’s publication history, see Let’s Map Mystara 1991.
The following lists are from the Let’s Map Mystara project. Additions are new features, introduced in this map; Revisions are changes to previously-introduced features; Hex Art & Fonts track design elements; and finally Textual Additions are potential features found in the related text. In most cases, the Atlas adopts these textual additions into updated and chronological maps.
