Hi Thorf, to which month of 1011 AC this map refers to?

This might seem an idle question, but actually the “Yarthmont 24: Stefan awards dominions” entry in PWA2 (pages 198-199) includes some useful information about the Alfheim refugees in Karameikos. So, if the map shows the kingdom at the start of the year, then it’s ok, but if it shows it somewhen between May (Yarthmont) and December (Kaldmont), then what follows could be of some interest.

The text states that Stefan is granting two new dominions to elven clans dispossessed by the Shadow Elven takeover of the Canolbarth Forest – one in the Achelos-Riverfork Woods, and the other in the Radlebb Woods (“a stretch […] east of Koriszegy Keep”). In the “What This Means” paragraph, the reasons behind the granting of these two new estates are revealed to be protests by Callarii clans, and fears of overcrowding in the (eastern) forests.
So, after this event I think it would make sense to have one clan of Alfheim refugees in Riverfork-Achelos, another one in the Radlebb Woods, the third one in the Dymrak Forest. IIRC the Alfheim clans who left for Karameikos in 1007 AC were the Chossum, Red Arrow, and Feadiel clans – maybe the Red Arrow, being the most “martial” one among those three, was the one left in the Dymrak (with countless goblinoid tribes nearby).

The same PWA2 entry also states that the “old” Black Eagle Barony is renamed Halag Barony, and as such it is also featured in K:KoA. This name was likely adopted as soon as Ludwig von Hendriks fell from power, to mark the end of his tyrannical rule, so maybe as soon as March (Thaumont) 1011 AC.

Also note that Verge, and Penhaligon were both upgraded to baronies in the years before 1010 AC – Retameron is called “baron of Verge” in PWA1 (page 206) – while Penhaligon is featured as a barony in the Penhaligon Trilogy books (which are supposedly set between 1000 and 1010 AC). Of course the version of Karameikos found in K:KoA (which should show the kingdom at the start of 1013 AC) has taken into account none of these changes, lazily keeping things mostly as they were in 1000 AC. Since no label exists in the map for the “Estate/Barony of Verge” (too small, likely, as Threshold is), an eventual modify would only be due for the Penhaligon label.

    Hope this helps!

Hi Simone! Sorry my reply is so late.

I started a topic about this (I think at The Piazza?) last year, and the consensus on dated maps was that they should generally represent the world on Nuwmont 1st of that year. So this map only shows stuff up to the end of the first Poor Wizard’s Almanac. Hence the difficulty in placing the Alfheim refugees. Some amount of reverse engineering of their position could be taken from the next two Almanacs, and I tried to reflect this.

I’m not very confident about the whole issue, and it’s wide open for change.

Thank you for the detailed info — it will be very useful for the next map!
