Legend (1981)
The original Expert Rulebook provided a wonderful early glimpse at the hex art icons that would later become so iconic to Mystara’s maps. Strangely, the symbol for village was absent, and since none of these large scale symbols appeared on any maps during 1981, at this point it remained unknown.
This legend collects together these symbols as well as all the others that appeared in maps in 1981. New symbols were added almost every year after this, but it’s interesting to see what has been there since the very beginning.
Chronological Map (August 2021)
This map is part of the Mystara 1981 series of chronological maps. It is an updated map, incorporating all available sources and made internally consistent with other maps in its series. But it only uses sources published in or before 1981.
For more information, see Appendix C: Cartographic Chronology.
