Ramelin’s Ylaruam & Jaibul, 8 miles per hex
November 2015 was a momentous month for Jose’s project, as he finalised more than thirty individual maps over a couple of days. The first set covered most of the Known World, while the second finished that off and then moved west to cover the Serpent Peninsula and the Savage Coast.
This is another map from the first set, and it’s his first truly major departure from official maps. Previously we saw how he was in the process of shifting Ethengar to the Adri Varma Plateau, and this is a similar relocation. But this seems like quite a few steps further, as Jose removed Ylaruam from its pretty central Known World location, instead rotating it 60º and placing it southwest of Sind and Jaibul, overwriting part of the Sind Desert.
As I’m sure all fans are very much aware, Ylaruam is among the most contentious nations of the Known World. Its status as an apparently hot desert directly south of the much cooler Northern Reaches has caused it to be repeatedly questioned over the years, ad infinitum. Jose’s solution wasn’t the first to relocate it in this way, but he made an excellent job of it. The only remaining question is what he did with the gap left where Ylaruam was originally placed — for which see his Khoryvian Dales map.
