Sturm’s Izonda & Pelatan, 24 miles per hex
This map was the culmination of a decade of on and off collaboration between Francesco Defferrari and Thibault Sarlat.
It all started back in 2001 with Francesco’s Northwestern Davania, 72 miles per hex draft map, dividing the western section of Geoff Gander’s Davania into nations great and small. Then in 2006 Thibault turned this into a series of draft maps at 24 miles per hex, which in turn Francesco marked up with details in the form of locations, internal borders, and of course map labels. Thibault finalised this in his 2007 Western Davania, 24 miles per hex map. However, perhaps due to the map’s scope (including vast swathes of the rest of Davania), it seems that he never shared this map.
And so it fell to Francesco to post the first finalised version a few years later in 2011. Based on his comments from the time, it seems he was not aware of Thibault’s 2007 map. He dealt with the unfinished areas by cropping the map to show only Izonda and Pelatan, and added some extra details in the remaining undeveloped regions.
It was a long journey to this point, but regardless, the map was an amazing gift to the Mystara community, filling in an area of the planet that otherwise would have been empty terrain. Many thanks to both Francesco and Thibault!
