Sturm’s New Blackmoor 3050 BC, 24 miles per hex
This was the first map that Francesco published in Threshold Magazine, appearing in Issue #2. He created it in late 2013, around the same time as his Pirate’s Rock map, which was also for Threshold.
The area shown is the familiar Known World area, albeit in a highly unfamiliar form. This is Mystara before the Great Rain of Fire, before the axial tilt that set the world in its current configuration. Consequently, the lands shown here are rotated 60º clockwise. If you tilt your head to the right, the familiar shapes and terrain forms should become apparent, with the Adri Varma Plateau in the centre and the Isle of Dawn in the bottom right.
New Blackmoor is a colony of Blackmoor proper. As a setting, it adds ancient history to the Known World region, placing ancient settlements where modern towns and cities are now located. This creates a nice potential for adventuring in both the 3050 BC timeframe as well as the present, 1000 AC, as it provides ancient history to correlate with modern locations.
All in all it’s a fascinating map.
