Thibault’s Alphatia, 24 miles per hex v1
Thibault worked up his first detailed map of Alphatia in late August 1999, posting it to the Mystara Mailing List in early September. What he posted then is the second map below, a bare map with just the terrain, although he did include rivers and roads using Grid’s built in angular line-drawing system.
The second version, less than two weeks later, added borders and labels. Unfortunately, this file has been lost, though it’s easy to see what it must have consisted of: the first version plus the labels and borders shown on the third version (the map directly below) — which came later, in November 2000. This last version was almost certainly a simple art update, changing the hex grid from grey to black.
The map itself is a nice rendition of Dawn of the Emperors’ Alphatia map. The deep and shallow water is a new innovation not shown on the original map, although Thibault later abandoned this feature.
The final version of this map came in 2001, with his new upright hexes art style, although he never added back the labels or borders. That map will be presented in its own post.
