Eastern Karameikos, 3 miles per hex (1986)
One of 1986’s biggest developments was B10’s expansion of Karameikos. The 3 mile per hex map was the heart of that: together with its dependent 2 mile per hex maps of the Foamfire Valley and the Lost Valley, this map added a wealth of extra details to the northeastern portion of the Grand Duchy.
The map below combines all three of these maps, resolving conflicts among them, and then adding details from the previous 6 mile per hex Karameikos map from the Expert sets. This was not at all an easy task, as the maps had some major conflicts. Indeed, it took me multiple attempts over a period of 15 years to arrive at this conclusion; B10’s maps have been responsible for stymieing my project and chasing me away from it more times than any others.
Now that it’s done, though, this and the accompanying 6 and 2 mile per hex maps are a wonderful set, completely consistent with each other, each benefitting from added details from these and other sources.
Of course, how they all fit (or rather don’t fit) with GAZ1’s Karameikos in 1987 is another matter…
Chronological Map (February 2022)
This map is part of the Mystara 1986 series of chronological maps. It is an updated map, incorporating all available sources and made internally consistent with other maps in its series. But it only uses sources published in or before 1986.
For more information, see Appendix C: Cartographic Chronology.

Revisions
For detailed notes, see the posts for each individual source map at the links above.
- Forests — The areas of forest that are separated from the main body of the forests have been added in accordance with the 6 mile per hex map of Karameikos, which had more extensive forests than B10’s map.
- Mountains — the ridge lines of the original 2 and 3 mile per hex maps have been merged, and areas that were hidden beneath the legend added.
