Known World, 24 miles per hex (1981)
This is the heart of Mystara: the Known World. But this isn’t just X1’s map; instead it’s an updated version, as it might have appeared in 1981 if a cartographer of the time had had access to all the available sources. It doesn’t include anything from subsequent years.
The main changes are twofold: the Isle of Dread has been made consistent with the larger scale maps, and the Barony of Gulluvia has been added to the plateau in the northwest. Other small additions include the missing “Alfheim” label, which was left off the map but appeared in X1’s text; and a revision to Glantri’s name, again to bring it in line with X1’s text.
Chronological Map (September 2021)
This map is part of the Mystara 1981 series of chronological maps. It is an updated map, incorporating all available sources and made internally consistent with other maps in its series. But it only uses sources published in or before 1981.
For more information, see Appendix C: Cartographic Chronology.

Revisions
For detailed notes, see the posts for each individual source map at the links above.
- Coastlines — the Isle of Dread coastline has been changed to match the large scale map, and its surrounding islands have been added.
- Gulluvia — the barony and its surroundings have been adapted to this scale and added to the map.
- Plateaus — an approximation of the Central Plateau has been added to the Isle of Dread.
- Terrain — revised to match larger scale maps where necessary.
