Mark’s Known World and Sea of Dread, 24 miles per hex v1
After a break of more than a decade, Mark returned to his Mystara mapping projects in late 2018. He began by investigating a new software option: Worldographer. Previously known as Hexographer, this program by Inkwell Ideas is focused on hex mapping, allowing maps to be created at different levels of zoom — and it’s easy to see why Mystaran cartographers could be excited at this prospect. However, things didn’t go all that smoothly for Mark, and he finally decided to instead go with a fully featured graphic program: Paint.NET.
Although he posted various drafts from his Worldographer experiments on his blog, these were all subsumed into his finished set of three maps, at 72, 24 and 8 miles per hex. He posted these at his blog in January 2019.
This is the 24 mile per hex base map from Mark’s Worldographer set. Content-wise, aside from the lack of labels, it’s similar to his previous versions from 2005, although he noted when posting the maps that the “parent” maps derive their terrain from the middle hex of the associated “child” map. There may be some differences in terrain between his old MS Paint maps and these Worldographer maps.
