JTR’s Heldann, 8 miles per hex
After focusing on the Idrisian Sphere region southwest of Norwold for the first five books of his Gaz F series, JTR next turned his sights to Norwold proper. Gaz F6 covered the northern realm of Littonia, another fan creation, this time by Geoff Gander. Instead of remaking his own map, JTR used Geoff’s own map of Littonia as is.
Thus, JTR’s next full map was his Heldann map for Gaz F7 The Heldannic Order. To say that this was an eagerly-awaited gazetteer would be a massive understatement. After all, Heldann was one of the original nations outlined in X1, an astonishing 26 years before. Along with Wendar and Sind, Heldann was among the top three nations most expected to receive the Gazetteer treatment after GAZ14. The community had been waiting years for this.
This was not, however, the first fan-created version of Heldann. Building on what the community had already come up with, JTR adapted Geoff’s Heldann map from 1998, as well as Bruce Heard’s Mystara Mailing List posts about Heldann from the same period. The result is very much JTR’s own version of Heldann, and it’s another important entry in the fan community’s development of this nation.
